The Disney Cruise Spa Isn’t Just for Adults — Here’s What to Know

A note on photos: All photos in this series are real images taken by our family. To protect our kids’ privacy, some have been transformed into anime-style illustrations while staying true to the original moments.
When most people hear “cruise spa,” they picture adults slipping away for a quiet hour while the kids are occupied elsewhere. And yes — Disney absolutely has that. Plenty of adult-only treatments, serene spaces, the whole thing.
But here’s what genuinely surprised me: the spa isn’t only for adults.
Once you’re onboard, there are several services available for kids and teens — and over the years, these have become something I actually look forward to planning. It took having older kids for me to fully appreciate it, but now it’s always on my radar.
The Most Important Thing to Know: Stop by on Embarkation Day
Here’s the detail that makes all the difference.
Some adult spa services can be reserved before you sail. But many kid and teen services are easiest to book once you’re onboard — and on busier sailings, the good times go fast.
My strongest advice: on embarkation day, before you get swept up in the excitement of the ship, make a quick stop at the spa. Ask what kid and teen services are available, what times are open, and what you can lock in right then.
It takes maybe ten minutes, and it’s the easiest way to avoid trying to squeeze something in at whatever’s left on the last day of the cruise.

What Kids Can Do at the Disney Cruise Spa
Haircuts at Hook’s Barbery
Both of my boys have gotten haircuts onboard, and it’s become one of those small cruise traditions they genuinely look forward to.
It’s low-key, it feels like a “special cruise thing,” and it doesn’t take a big chunk of the day. Papa Bird doesn’t mind taking them — especially when it lines up with his own “nearby priorities,” if you know what I mean.
Manicures, Pedicures, and Haircuts for Sister
Sister loves anything that feels like being pampered, and she’s now had manicures, pedicures, and a haircut onboard over various sailings.
This one shifted my thinking. For a long time I defaulted to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique as the go-to “kid glam” experience — and it’s wonderful — but it’s not the only option. The spa gives older kids who are maybe past the princess transformation phase something that feels special and age-appropriate.
For Sister, it’s become one of her favorite parts of the cruise.
Hair Braiding at Tangled Salon
This is one I only discovered relatively recently: Tangled Salon offers hair braiding, though availability can vary by ship and sailing.
If you have a kid who loves that kind of experience, it’s absolutely worth asking about on embarkation day. Don’t assume it’s not available — just check.

What About Teens and the Gym?
This surprises a lot of parents: on some sailings, teens may be able to access the gym under certain conditions. Typically a parent or guardian needs to sign a waiver and may need to be present, but policies can vary by ship and sailing.
If you have a teen who’d actually use the gym, it’s worth confirming the current rules onboard (or checking Disney’s current guidance for your sailing).
Why It’s Worth Considering (Even If You’re Not a “Spa Family”)
You don’t have to be someone who books spa days at home for this to be worth doing on a cruise.
Kid and teen spa services often land as a trip highlight because they’re different from everyday life. It’s a calm, treat-yourself moment in the middle of what’s usually a very full week. For older kids who aren’t as interested in character meet-and-greets, this can be the experience they talk about most when they get home.
And for parents? Booking a haircut or a manicure for your kid is a lot simpler than you’d think — and it buys everyone a genuinely happy afternoon.
The One Tip Worth Remembering
If there’s one thing to take from this post, it’s this: go to the spa on embarkation day.
Here’s exactly what to ask:
What kid/teen services are available on this sailing?
Is hair braiding offered this trip?
What appointment times are open (and how long do they take)?
Are there age minimums or any parent signature requirements?
You’ll be glad you did — and your kids might surprise you with how much they love it.
