After 28 trips I finally landed on a family travel toiletry kit system that actually works — one bag per person, one medicine kit, grab and go.
For the longest time, I was tossing everything into one big bag and hoping for the best. Somebody always ended up borrowing someone else's toothbrush cover, the Motrin was buried under three hair ties, and I'd inevitably forget something. (Deodorant for Big Brother — lesson learned the hard way.)
So now, every person in our family has their own toiletry kit, and I keep a separate medicine bag that stays packed and ready to grab. It sounds like a lot, but honestly it's made travel mornings so much calmer. Prep once, toss in the suitcase, done.
Here's exactly what's in each bag and what's in our family medicine kit — all field-tested across our recent Legoland + Universal + Disney Wish spring break trip.
🦅 Big Brother's Family Travel Toiletry Kit (Our Growing Tween)

Big Brother is officially a tween, and his toiletry needs are starting to look a little different these days. He received a new toiletry kit for Christmas, and it felt like the right time to give him something that was fully his.

On our last trip, I completely forgot deodorant — a mistake I will not be making again. I ordered him a travel-size on the way home so it's now permanently part of his kit.

I also pack him a face wash. I simply bought another bottle of what he already uses at home so there's no adjustment while traveling.

For Christmas, he received travel-size shampoo, conditioner, and lotion from Molton Brown. I had purchased the larger gift set, which worked out perfectly because Papa Bird and I were able to enjoy it too.

Of course, his kit wouldn't be complete without a toothbrush, toothpaste, and toothbrush covers — to theoretically protect from extra germs. 😅

And a travel hairbrush — because I like to believe he'll make an attempt to use it.

Sister 🎀

For Sister, I picked a fun toiletry kit that felt very "her," and she seemed pretty pleased with it.

She received a travel shampoo, conditioner, and body wash set for Christmas, which makes packing incredibly easy — everything just gets loaded into her bag.

Her kit also includes a travel toothbrush and her own toothpaste, a small hairbrush, and hair ties just in case she wants to put her hair up. Simple, practical, and perfectly suited for her.
Little Brother 🧢⚡

Little Brother is very into Pokémon this year, so his toiletry kit absolutely reflects that love.

His setup is pretty simple: a travel bottle filled with his preferred soap and body wash, a hairbrush, Vaseline for dry lips (a must for him), and a toothbrush and toothpaste. Easy, familiar, and no fuss.

And of course… my bag.
I use refillable travel bottles for shampoo and conditioner. I bought a large set on sale a while back, so I just refill the bottles as needed. For soap, I'll bring my Molton Brown stocking stuffer. Since we'll often be staying at a hotel for part of the trip, it's nice knowing I can use what they provide if I happen to run out.

I never forget my razor — I've used this one for years and love that I don't need shaving cream.

I also pack face wash and lotions (I fell in love with Elemis on one of our cruises), a small perfume, and face sunscreen.

👉 Perfume (Jo Malone mini set — love the compact size and being able to switch scents day to day): https://amzn.to/48WWaS7
And yes — toothbrush and toothpaste, always. On the day of travel, I'll toss my regular hairbrush into the bag, set aside a small makeup pouch, and maybe add nail polish as the trip gets closer.
💊 Our Family Medicine Bag
This is the bag I keep packed between trips. I don't overthink it — just the essentials so we're prepared without hauling a pharmacy. It lives in whichever suitcase holds our "every-stop" items. For this trip, that was the large Monos.
Children's Motrin — This was the MVP on this trip. Sister started feeling a little under the weather at Universal and I was so glad I had it on hand. Don't wait until someone feels sick to go hunting for a CVS in the theme park.
Earache drops — With the amount of pool and ocean water our kids get into, earaches happen. These are small, easy to pack, and I'd rather have them and not need them.
Vaseline — Little Brother especially needs this for dry lips. Also handy for blisters and chapped skin from all the sun and wind.
Band-Aids — Always. I keep a mix of sizes because someone always manages to scrape something.
Reflux Relief — These travel reflux packets are lifesavers. If you're a mom who has discovered that certain foods just don't sit the way they used to… these help a lot. Recommended by my doctor and definitely coming on every trip.

🧳 How It All Fits
For this trip, I packed all the toiletry bags and the medicine kit into the large Monos suitcase — the one that held our "every-stop" items like sunscreen, shoes, and anything we'd need at Legoland, Universal, and on the cruise. Having them all in one dedicated spot means I'm not digging through clothing to find the Motrin at 10 p.m.
Prepping toiletry bags early makes travel days feel calmer and helps our Mama Bird Adventures start on a relaxed note — before we even leave the house.
I'll be sure to share updates if we add anything new or swap something out. These bags are constantly evolving — especially as Big Brother's tween needs keep changing.
What's the one toiletry or medicine item you never travel without? I'd love to hear in the comments!
