If you’re looking for a quiet escape from the heat or the cold—and a break from the busy Parkway crowds—the Hollywood Car Museum in Gatlinburg is a fantastic option.

This ended up being one of those off-the-beaten-path stops that pleasantly surprised our family. For most of our visit, we were the only people in each section of the museum, which made it feel relaxed and easy to explore at our own pace—something we always appreciate when traveling with kids.

Why We Decided to Visit

One of the biggest reasons we chose to visit the Hollywood Car Museum was Little Brother’s love of cars. He’s always been drawn to anything with wheels, engines, and flashing lights, and when we plan trips, we try to lean into whatever the kids are most excited about at the time.

In fact, one of his biggest requests for Christmas was a toy Lamborghini, so getting to see a real one in person at the museum made the experience even more special for him.

Since Gatlinburg can feel busy and overwhelming—especially with younger kids—this museum felt like a great way to give him something he’d truly enjoy while keeping the experience calm and manageable for the rest of the family. Seeing his excitement as he spotted car after car made the visit even more fun for all of us.

A Walk Through TV, Movies & Pop Culture

One of the best parts of the Hollywood Car Museum is the nostalgia factor. It was fun seeing so many iconic cars we grew up watching on TV and in movies, including:

  • The Batmobile

  • The Flintstones car

  • The Ghostbusters car

  • The DeLorean from Back to the Future

  • A whole fleet of cars from the Fast & Furious movies

They also feature cars tied to well-known celebrities, including Dolly Parton, Mike Tyson, and Elvis, which added another fun layer to the experience.

If you’re an Andy Griffith fan, you’ll especially enjoy seeing the iconic police car from the show—it brought back a lot of memories for us.

Surprises Along the Way (and a Startled Little Bird)

There were a few unexpected moments throughout the museum—some fun, and one that definitely startled Little Brother.

As we were entering one section to see a Batman car, Dom’s car from Fast & Furious suddenly turned on and revved its engine. It was loud and completely unexpected, and it scared Little Brother pretty badly in the moment. He was not a fan of that surprise at all.

Sister’s favorite interactive moment involved the car Christine. When you step on the bottom stair leading upstairs, the car lights up and revs its engine. She loved that it reacted as you walked by—it felt dramatic and interactive in the best way.

Each Bird’s Favorite Car 🐦

Everyone had their own standout favorite:

  • Little Brother: The Lamborghini

  • Sister: Christine lighting up and revving

  • Big Brother & Papa Bird: The Ghostbusters car

  • Mama Bird: Dolly Parton’s Cadillac story

The kids all agreed that Elvis’s car was interesting, and Bumblebee was pretty cool too. Sister also loved the Batman display at the end of the museum. Little Brother liked it as well—just not the revving Fast & Furious car next to it.

Fun Facts & Stories We Loved

One interesting fact that really stood out to us:👉 The wheels on the Fast & Furious cars cost around $4,000 each.

One of my favorite stories in the museum was about Dolly Parton’s Cadillac. She explained that it was intentionally “boring” because her husband refused to ride in anything flashy or blinged out. He told her he’d never drive something like that, so she stuck with her trusty, simple car. It was such a classic Dolly moment and made me smile.

Parking Tip 🚗

We arrived in Gatlinburg around 8:30 AM and had no trouble finding a spot in a paid parking lot. By the time we left around 10:30 AM, parking was completely full. If you’re planning to visit, arriving earlier in the day will make things much easier.

🪶 Mama Bird Feather Rating

After exploring the museum and seeing how much each of the kids enjoyed it—especially Little Brother—we’re giving the Hollywood Car Museum:

5 out of 5 Feathers 🪶🪶🪶🪶🪶

It checked all the boxes for us:

  • Calm and uncrowded

  • Indoor and weather-friendly

  • Full of nostalgia for adults

  • Exciting and engaging for kids

  • A perfect break from Gatlinburg’s busiest attractions

This is exactly the kind of family-friendly stop we love discovering on our trips.

Final Thoughts

The Hollywood Car Museum was a fun, relaxed experience and a great balance to some of Gatlinburg’s more crowded attractions. Whether you’re traveling with car-loving kids, enjoy pop culture nostalgia, or just need a calm indoor activity, this museum is well worth a visit.

Everyone in the Bird Family agreed—it was definitely worth stopping by.
